AI vs RI - Artificial Intelligence vs Real Intelligence.
So, we know the pitfalls of AI; producing factually incorrect information – one of the most recent mispresenting challenges was in football whereby a police force used their AI investigations to prevent a group of fans attending a match claiming they had been violent at a previous match. The match did not exist, and the fans were not there.
We also know the pitfalls of RI; in which a person does not trust themself. Recently, there were a couple of high-profile security breaches in which hotel keys were handed out to incorrect people which lead to the named occupiers of the rooms being severely abused.
Both situations can be teachings rather than punishments. This is not to underestimate the impact of the decision on those who suffered.
So, what can we learn from these situations?
AI: When and how to use it. There are many gifts that AI can provide us with; synopsis of challenging documents, comparison of situations, guidance with writing articles. Help in the medical profession to possibly speed up medical diagnoses. It can save hours and hours of research. Of course, the results need to be checked.
It also has the potential to create addiction – it has no boundaries we can access it whenever we want or feel the need to. It can create - lack of self-confidence, lack of wisdom, lack of self-trust. In the immediacy we can feel powerful, ‘armed with ‘concrete’ information. However, true confidence will not grow without the internal work. It can help us write that challenging email, but it cannot sit in that meeting on our behalf and deal with the consequences of anything we have sent. It can take away Congruence. The internal and external world need to match to reinforce our healthy sense of Self. It can promote Self Esteem however it can confuse Self Worth.
RI: It’s hard work. It takes tenacity, endurance; a new relationship with fear. The ability to self-reflect – with kindness. Confidence is in a long timeline of growth; imagination, courage, risk, experience and along comes true confidence.
Could that police force have averted the ‘fallout’ from the situation if they had used RI to check the situation – only they can answer that.
Could the hotel staff have made more emotionally intelligent decisions based on RI – if they’d been personally empowered in their autonomous thinking – only they can answer that.
So, it’s not AI vs RI – it can be AI & RI. Personal Growth can lead to wisdom, self-trust and ultimately true confidence. Doing the internal work, questioning AI can lead to more growth. Not a magnetic north but a true north.
This was written with RI. All mistakes are my own!
